Description

On the final day of Maria VMier’s project “no: tongue breaks and thin fire is racing under skin,” a performance by @nnast_antn will take place. The artist and performer slips into the role of Sappho, the famous poet of antiquity. Sappho becomes the host of a community-building unveiling ceremony in which @nnast_antn approaches VMier’s installation like a body that can be touched and seduced.

She thus opens up a poetic, queer space that makes an erotic appropriation of the museum possible. In a pleasurable game with the symbolic charge and traditional codes of the museum, she demystifies the relationship between the gaze, the body, power and desire. The performance begins in Cy Twombly’s Rose Room on the upper level, leads through the institution and out onto the street. When the museum doors close, the non-public part begins, the Symposium of the Unfamous, which is reserved for the participating artists.

@nnast_antn is a video and performance artist, as well as a set designer based in Berlin. From the “unprofessional” creation of NSFW animation to performative practice—her work revolves around the potential ways of pleasure production in an environment where pleasure is censored, and desire is occupied by fear. @nnast_antn is working tirelessly on a proposal for a new queer order in which the heteropatriarchal gaze is reappropriated, and the mystical “man” behind the male gaze finally disappears.
