Description
MOTIF FACTORY
What motifs can we find in the works of Andy Warhol and Keith Haring and how were they realized? Both artists loved well-known and widespread motifs that many people knew from everyday life or television, such as the symbol of a dollar bill, or Mickey Mouse. In the workshop, you can invent your own motif or redesign a famous shape. Using scissors and cardboard, you can make your own motif stamp, then print and reproduce your motif by hand in many colors—just like in a stamp factory. What happens when we repeat a motif several times by hand? All “mistakes,” blots and errors are part of the production process. Get to know the practical process behind simple printing methods.
The workshop will take place in the ticket-free area of the Factory space (lower level) and is run by Niloufar Shirani. She is familiar with various printing techniques. She sees an interesting connection between Warhol's “Factory” and the traditional art of Iran.
